"Reval" Stainless Steel Ribbed Reinforcement Bar.
"Reval" is the trademark of austenitic stainless steel reinforcement bar manufactured by Acciaierie
Valbruna - Vicenza (Italy).
Concrete structures produced with Reval respond to the static requirements demanded by projects and mechanical standards in force in different countries. They give incomparable, long lasting resistance to corrosion, and at the same time offer obvious economic advantages in the medium and long term.

Reval's initial higher cost, compared with other types of steel, is largely compensated by the absolute absence of maintenance to the structure in service. Reval is therefore the answer and the solution to the problem of degradation, safety of structure and quality at the stage of designing and building.

Reval 30 (austenitic steel type 304) and Reval 31 (type 316) are available in 6 metre bar 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 25, 28, 32, 40 mm diameter and in wire mesh 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm dia.
Cutting, bending, welding and bonding of values is done according to the standards in force in Europe. Since 1988 Acciaierie Valbruna has been cooperating with a number of universities and government bodies in Europe with the aim of improving and standardising the properties of Reval according to the national and international legislation on concrete structures.

Here are some of Reval's best features.

Resistance to corrosion in concrete
The University of Naples and the Polytecnic of Milan among others, have offered the most important contribution in testing Reval's performances.
The behaviour of Reval in very aggressive environments (such as concrete contaminated by chlorides and carbonate) has been compared with different types of steel used in concrete structures.
The following considerations have eventually emerged: the exposure to high temperatures (40 degrees Celsius in tropical climates) triggers a general diminution in the limit of chlorides stability (more evident in galvanised and mild steels for which at local temperature the critical limit is 0,4 - 1% and 1,5%).

Reval shows a considerably higher resistance to the different levels of pH in concrete. That peculiar stability, especially for Reval 31, suggests that the steel is particularly suitable in the most aggressive environments where anchors are exposed and unprotected, in bridges, viaducts and tunnels where concrete is in direct contact with defrosting salts and also in marine areas.

Reval and Mild Steel
Reval can be used in structures together with mild steel reinforcing bars by simple joining or welding. That happens, for instance, in works of restoration where the existing metallic structure is maintained. The success of the joining depends upon correct passivation of the mild steel to the absence of chlorides.
